Access to the island is restricted to a wonderful swing bridge located 30 minutes from the reserve in Little Current. If travelling from Sudbury or southern Ontario follow highway 17 west bound to the junction of highway 6 near Espanola. From Sault Ste. Marie follow highway 17 east bound to Espanola. Drive south through the LaCloche Mountains to Little Current. Continue south to Manitowaning and then follow the signs.

In the late spring, summer and early autumn, the Chi-Cheemaun passenger ferry manoeuvres its way through the waters of Georgian Bay from Tobermory to South Bay Mouth on Manitoulin. The ferry runs several times each day and a one-way journey takes 1 hr 45 min. Once on the Island head north to Manitowaning and again, follow the signs.
